Over the years, some of Salman's biggest hits have come from either working with Southern directors or in remakes of Southern hits like 'Sethu', which was remade by Satish Kaushik as 'Tere Naam', and 'Pokiri', better known in B'town as 'Wanted'. His roles in these movies have been wildly over the top action heroes that have found much favour with the frontbenchers of Bollywood.
Things seem to have changed though, with Salman's portrayal of the virtually invincible and irrepressibly lovable Robinhood Pandey earning praise from all sections of the audience and turning 'Dabangg' into one of the biggest hits of all time in Hindi cinema. And the Southern brood seems to have fallen in love with the character too, since the film is already kitted out in enough action to cater to Southern audiences' tastes.
Numerous Southern directors have been seeking appointments with the film's producer, brother Arbaaz, in the hopes of bagging remake rights to the blockbuster. Arbaaz, however, doesn't seem to be in the mood to let go of his golden goose any time soon, choosing to wait for the right price and director instead. Claiming that the film is very close to his heart, Khan is keen on retaining creative control even in any Southern remakes, something that could prove to be a sore point in the negotiations.
Still, even as Arbaaz bides his time in picking a Southern filmmaker to accede to, audiences down under should get themselves ready. After all, it might not be long before Robinhood 'Chulbul' Padmanabhan comes their way…
